Dissemination of the Final Report from the GRUAS II Conservation Zoning Exercise in Costa Rica The aim of this project was to publish the results of the zoning proposal for the conservation of biodiversity in Costa Rica (also known as "GRUAS II") in order to provide technical information to the entities responsible for the management, research, planning, and creation of policies related to land use. Nacientes Palmichal: Rural Community Tourism The mission of the Asociación para el Desarrollo Sostenible de San José Rural is to protect the Negro and Tabarcia River watersheds, which provide water to three different towns with more than 40,000 residents. Conservation of Grasslands for Neotropical Migratory Birds in Northeast Tamaulipas, Mexico This project carried out an ecological assessment and prepared a management plan for Rancho Loreto, a 61,776 acre farm with native grasslands and associated thorny scrub that is frequented by Neotropical grassland birds during the winter. Enrique Bucher, Director of the Center for Applied Zoology of the National University of Córdoba in Argentina, discusses his work to design and manage artificial wetlands to provide suitable habitat for resident and migratory birds.
The Society for the Conservation and Study of Caribbean Birds supports local conservation organizations in their efforts to conserve Caribbean birds and their habitats. We talked with Lisa Sorenson, President of the SCSCB, about the Society’s goals, successes, and its plans to continue advancing conservation in the Caribbean.
