The Rainforest Alliance compared deforestation rates on Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified forest concessions with rates on other land use zones within Guatemala's Maya Biosphere Reserve and found that deforestation rates are 20 times lower on FSC certified concessions.

The World Wildlife Fund has formed the Adaptation to Climate Change in Marine Turtles initiative, which, using the hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricate) as an indicator species, seeks to compile comprehensive data and develop management strategies to help endangered sea turtle species adapt to climate change.
